Field 4.6.0 / Continuity

A conversation,
held.

Something opens. Something changes. Something of what came before remains.

Field Companion gives a conversation's expression somewhere to stay. An assistant can publish a new composition after a meaningful development. The same field changes around its fixed center, carrying a trace of the expression that preceded it.

Movement with a history

A surface can gather, reach, settle, or hold an opening. The movement follows the artwork's curves and light. When retained influence belongs in the composition, an actual earlier contour joins the new surface. The capsule stays steady.

The field rests when a transition is complete. A quiet exchange can stay quiet. Still view and reduced-motion preferences retain the complete expression. You can revisit a moment, replay the recent history, or save a still with its controls and context coverage.

Available at a glance, or a listen

A small window can sit beside the conversation. The latest expression remains available between updates. Its source, freshness, and coverage are available on inspection. A saved field returns after a pause; a disconnected companion tells you that it is holding an earlier expression.

The listening companion is a 24-second musical portrait of the moment selected when you press Listen. Its phrase stays with that moment even if the picture advances. The panel names the moment you are hearing and identifies a different moment in view. Stop and listen again to hear the newly selected moment. Sound does not evolve automatically with movement or history replay.

Connect your agent

The public study is a composed demonstration. For your own conversation, download Field 4.6.0 and keep the package together. The local companion requires Node.js 18 or later, with no extra packages or API key.

From the unzipped Field folder, start it:

node scripts/field.mjs serve

Open the local address it prints. Then give the package to your assistant and ask:

Read the Field skill and its continuity protocol. Keep Field present for this conversation. After substantive responses or meaningful work milestones, publish an updated expression using the fullest context and reflective understanding your host permits. Preserve the whole-conversation scope and describe any material gaps.

The participating agent composes and publishes each update. Starting the companion alone does not monitor your chat or create interpretations. The assistant needs a way to run the local publishing command; its host must support continuing the instruction across turns. The local command and update format are documented in the package's references/continuity-protocol.md.

The service saves selected conversations in a local .field directory. Restart it with the same directory to resume. It keeps up to 80 recent expressions for replay, with a separate optional phase index for the agent. You can choose another directory with --data. Your conversations are not uploaded to the public Field site.

The scope of expression

Field seeks the fullest expression each host permits: the conversation, its accumulated context, and the assistant's reflective understanding of how it is engaging. Nuance need not already have been stated in a message. The host's rules establish the informational boundaries across every medium.

Field makes modest claims about what can be measured or established about its interpretations. Its expressive usefulness remains something to discover through experience.
